Since 1995 Hugh Jart has been permanently capturing public input & creativity on huge canvas painting screens.
Back at the beginning of summer 1994, at a sunny & lazy Fayre, in the Forest of Dean, a number of youngsters became acquainted, as they so easily do. Stan, age one and a half, made friends with Max a slightly older boy from the ambulance next door. Max's parents gave all the kids paints & brushes & allowed them to paint on the side of their ambulance. We laid back and watched. The kids were in their element and a brilliant idea was created.
This idea soon became a reality and in 1995 a group of us formed the arts group Hugh Jart's Mobile Murals nowadays better known as just Hugh Jart.
Our initial aim was to bring people together by inviting them to join in & produce huge collaborative works of art. We started the mobile murals with great success in May 1995 at a local fun day in Ilkley, with a 18ft x 8ft canvas donated to us by a local stage set production company.
We then put a proposal to Arabella Churchill who ran the Circus fields at Glastonbury Festival. She gave us £500, 10 tickets and a space to do one of the best 40ft murals that we have ever completed. Throughout the festival we were inundated with enthusiastic people wanting to join in and praising us for coming up with such a fantastic idea. We were booked to do several other gigs there and then, which has kept us busy for every summer since.
Over the years we have completed on average 15 large paintings per year at a variety of festivals and community events all over the country. Pop music festivals, local authority events, awareness & promotional projects, party, wedding & school murals.
In recent years we have been invited to places such as Berlin & Juan-les-Pins, for our corporate painting entertainment, by the likes of Microsoft & Nokia.
We have even taken Hugh Jart to the Middle East and produced more huge works of art at festivals and events in Dubai & Bahrain.
